Get on your bike in August
Each of the next three weekends each have an exceptional local ride to give you an excuse to get your bike out of the garage (or the spare bedroom, or the pawnshop...), so give it a shot.
Sunday, August 8: Dan Schreiber Memorial Ride
Departing from the Bike Project at 4 p.m. Ride to Prairie Fruits Farm for a memorial service and return (total distance approximately 10 miles).

Many of us have ridden with Dan, and those who haven't wish they had. I think we all know that Dan wants us to shop local, love our planet and ride our bikes. We all know that if he were heading out to the farm as he often did, it would be on bike.
I also know that many of us had future rides planned with Dan and so in his memory, in his honor and for all the rides we won't be able to take with him. Please join me, his famil...y and other friends in biking. Not everyone owns a bike but this is the time to start so if you have an extra, please post on the event wall or message me. I will be volunteering two (sadly mediocre) bikes of my own.
As sunset is at 8:30, we should be able to ride there and back during daylight but please bring helmets, reflectors and lights.

Saturday, August 14: C-U Across the Prairie
It's the Prairie Cycle Club's annual metric century, but if you're not up for that, there are 17 and 35 mile routes as well. From the PCC website:
Routes
The ride will take you out of Hidewaway of the Woods on paved, low-traffic roads, over flat to slightly rolling terrain. Rides are designed to be relaxing and enjoyable for all skill levels.Food
Breakfast and lunch to be provided by Hideaway Bar and Grill in Mahomet There will be one food stop on the 17- and 35-mile routes, and two food stops on the 65-mile route.Who rides?
Either as individuals or in groups, people of all ages, abilities and bike styles are invited. Riders under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.Directions
The ride will begin and end at HIdeaway of the Woods Restaurant in Mahomet, Illinois.
From I-74, take exit #174. Turn left immediately, just before BP station, into "Hideaway of the Woods."Registration
Check-in for both pre-registered riders and day-of-ride registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 10 a.m.
Those planning to ride the 65-mile route should plan to begin riding by 8:30 am.
The registration fee includes a map, well-marked routes, sag vehicle support, bagel breakfast, food stops
and an end-of-the-ride hot meal.

Saturday, August 21: Mustache Ride
It's the second year for this combination alleycat/mustache contest, and the $10 registration (which includes a t-shirt designed by Gillian Gabriel) ends this Saturday, August 7. After that, it's $15 with t-shirts for as long as they last. Registration/sign-in will begin at 5 p.m. at the Bike Project, mustache contest (real or fake) at 5:30, ride at 6 p.m., and after-party to follow featuring DJ Miss Info and DJ Tim Halen. Celebrate C-U bike culture and awesome lip jackets.
