As someone from Normal that has been in on the Ohtis secret since they started it in high school and knowing how long this album took them to write and record, it is pretty lame someone put that mediafire link up instead of just linking to their myspace, official site, or undertow records site and telling people to buy the album.

Amazing review for an amazing album. Most deffinitely in my top of 2008 albums!

It was me who put up the mediafire link! Mwahahahaha. I did it because I want people in Champaign to like us… it’s probably better that smilepolitely took it down, though, since a lot of people seem to be viewing this page, and a band’s gotta make a living.
haha, well done Adam. : -)

If you want to listen to the whole album, it’s streaming on Last.fm.

was just trying to look out.
Good form Adam. When I saw this earlier in the day I thought, “If I were in that band I would post the album myself because it would make people WANT to listen to my music.” That’s the biggest challege for a musician. Only once people know what you’ve got will they pay for it. :)

nice doodle. it’s just like i pictured the snakes in my head, but you made samuel look so sad in the fifth frame. here is a doodle i made of 666 when samuel wrote the song 3 years ago. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e312/xzx0/l_19190d840a0771c36b7443448938ccec.jpg

AH!! A critical effort worthy of a great band. I’ve often wondered why the hell Ohtis isn’t bigger in C-U. I was hooked from the first time I saw them and immediately bought their disc Saving the Planet, complete with sticker and (super huge jammie-worthy) t-shirt. I worked at Rentertainment at the time and played that CD as many times as I could without getting murdered. Then I tried beggin on myspace to get Ohtis to come back, and I’ve only gotten to see them once since. Come back on a weekend and play downtown!! I’ll be there with bells on!!

dudes, i’ve tried my ass off to get a decent gig in Champaign… I literally got into a phone argument with a bigger Champaign/Urbana band whose manager wouldn’t return the favor when we got them a big house show in Blo/No; (I won’t name names). For one reason or another, us playing in C/U just ain’t happenin’. who do I need to talk to? everyone always throws seth fein’s name around, but little do they know he doesn’t book shows anymore. Help me out! butterof69@yahoo.com e-mail me!

I agree. A great review for a really wonderful album. Talk to me sometime, Adam. I actually have you on a list of bands I want to book in C-U this Spring/Summer. I’ll get you on one of these “downtown” shows these people are talking about. It’ll be a blast!
Oh Adam! You know I book shows!
March 12—Canopy Club. Ohtis performs.

Yeah, I’d agree that Transporter Room 3 is the worst house venue I’ve ever seen.
*slow. clap.* Still offering no threat of intelligence…. I know I said I thought you should just write this whole column yourself next year, Isaac, but now that you’ve gone and taken a “part deux” run at it, I’d like to modify my request: Best Music 2013,…
Actually, it’s kind of nice, the quiet. John Heoffleur’s engaging commentary/dialogue is sorely missed, however. In lieu of someone intelligent saying something, I’ve compiled a list of Honourable Mentions: BEST ROCK BAND: Take Care ::these gentlemen have four completely different sets at their disposal right now (which…
That article almost looks like something out of The Onion
Thanks! I’m looking forward to writing even more….
that city center house show was one of those life-affirming things.

I also got to visit Big Grove Tavern during the soft open and definitely enjoyed the pork belly the most of all the dishes I sampled. The cheesy grits and the vinegary pickled vegetables were a perfect compliment to the rich pork belly.
The Alan Partridge lookalike on the right in the first small photo has nothing to condescend to anyone about. AH HA!
Snell and the little Hitlers of the neighborhood association need to chill out. Legitimate businesses should have the freedom to exist without having to endure the slings and arrows of ignorant and misguided opposition.

Food trucks are the start-up, small businesses of the future for those unable to afford real estate. No surprise, that merchants who pay rent, utilities, and maintenance on a property would despise the traveling competition. Or developers who build more empty retail spaces would want to close…
Not so much far-right Tea Party as a balanced, moderate viewpoint between letting businesses succeed and protecting society with reasonable regulations. In spite of what the city reps are saying, the interpretation of policy on this issue certainly has changed. Letting a business start up under one…
I think it’s neat that SP has turned rightward, now espousing a Tea Party-style frustration with government regulations & taxes.
This makes me so sad. (Happy to live in Urbana, though!) Crave Truck has been a GREAT addition to the food choices in C-U, and it’d be a travesty to chase them away. This town should be supporting small businesses. I’m glad to hear that they’ll still…

And without bloodshed. Sounds like the Savoy trustees aren’t as narrow-minded as some of their whiny pants constituents. Do you think quack Snell is already planning an asinine counterattack or is he still laying low after those “threats” against his person?
Okay, almost 24 hours later and I finally got Issac’s Summer joke. I’m an idiot.
Swap the dog for a fire pit and it sounds like you’re writing about my back yard. Very nice.
