Pygmalion schedule changes, Emeralds and new Erin Fein project added

Pygmalion has made some changes to its schedule (and two additions) — definitely for the better, in our opinion. Here's a quick run through of the changes, followed by an updated schedule.

• The Built to Spill show on Wednesday night has been moved back an hour to help accommodate those wanting to see both Janelle Monae and Built To Spill. Capacity limitations still may apply.

• Caribou will perform at the Canopy Club on Saturday night along with new lineup addition [and touring partner] Emeralds. The Cleveland-based ambient/kraut group is touring behind the excellent What Happened, so this won't be one to miss. Single tickets for this show go on sale TODAY at 5 p.m.

• Cap'n Jazz will perform Saturday night at Stage 5 in Krannert Center, instead of Canopy Club. This is now a FREE show.

• Psychic Twin, a new project featuring Erin Fein of Headlights / Absinthe Blind, will perform on Thursday night at the Canopy Club prior to Surfer Blood.

• The show on Friday night at Caffe Paradiso featuring Colour Revolt, Pomegranates and Gold Motel has been moved to the Canopy Club, and will now begin at 6 p.m. Single tickets for this show go on sale TODAY at 5 p.m.

• Saturday's late show at Mike 'N Molly's has been dissolved into the other shows at the festival. Additionally, The Dirty Feathers will now perform at Canopy Club instead of Cowboy Monkey.

• If you purchased an individual ticket to the Cap'n Jazz show at Canopy Club, refunds will be issued by Etix (if you purchased online) and Canopy Club (if you purchased physically).

Psychic Twin is an exciting addition.

I’m a little concerned that Cap’n Jazz will draw a big crowd on that small stage, but hey, it’s free.

why is the cap n jazz show free now?  its kind of garbage for the people who supported early by buying passes and tix mainly because of this show.

I am not quite sure how offering free shows to the public is garbage, but you know, I’ll respond anyhow.

Each year, we try to present a couple of free concerts in conjunction with Pygmalion Music Festival so that folks can enjoy it, even if they don’t want to see everything, and moreover, because some folks don’t have the discretionary income to spend on even a show or two.

That said, if you bought a pass early, great. You still get to see Cap’n Jazz. And you still have tickets to Built to Spill, Janelle Monae, of Montreal, Surfer Blood, Fang Island, Those Darlins, Cults, Turbo Fruits, Plastician, Colour Revolt, Cut Chemist, Owen, +–{Plus/Minus}, Roky Erickson w/ Okkervil River, Ted Leo, Caribous, Royal Bangs, etc etc etc.

So, I am not sure how it matters whether or not it’s at Krannert for free or whether it’s at Canopy, for $15. Either way, you win, I think.

my biggest concern is what a pit in krannert will be like.

My biggest concern is that the free Caribou show at the Krannert is now not at the Krannert and no longer free. But then, I guess if that’s my biggest concern, then I’m doing pretty well—at least I still have potable water! Still, I would prefer it if next year Pygmalion made more of an effort to be about me and my needs.

can i point out that this is the only schedule that emeralds are listed on.
http://schedule.pygmalionmusicfestival.com/ does not mention them, and says that dirty feathers are playing at 11:40—ten minutes after the schedule in this post has emeralds taking the stage.
they aren’t even pictured on the main pygmalion page.

Well, at the time this article was posted, Emeralds were on the festival.  They are no longer playing.

oh, well not to be too critical, but it seems like announcing this might have been fair.
happened to be looking forward to that one in particular.

Yeah, I’d agree that Transporter Room 3 is the worst house venue I’ve ever seen.

*slow. clap.* Still offering no threat of intelligence…. I know I said I thought you should just write this whole column yourself next year, Isaac, but now that you’ve gone and taken a “part deux” run at it, I’d like to modify my request: Best Music 2013,…

Actually, it’s kind of nice, the quiet.  John Heoffleur’s engaging commentary/dialogue is sorely missed, however. In lieu of someone intelligent saying something, I’ve compiled a list of Honourable Mentions: BEST ROCK BAND: Take Care ::these gentlemen have four completely different sets at their disposal right now (which…

that city center house show was one of those life-affirming things.

I also got to visit Big Grove Tavern during the soft open and definitely enjoyed the pork belly the most of all the dishes I sampled. The cheesy grits and the vinegary pickled vegetables were a perfect compliment to the rich pork belly.

The Alan Partridge lookalike on the right in the first small photo has nothing to condescend to anyone about. AH HA!

Snell and the little Hitlers of the neighborhood association need to chill out. Legitimate businesses should have the freedom to exist without having to endure the slings and arrows of ignorant and misguided opposition.

Food trucks are the start-up, small businesses of the future for those unable to afford real estate. No surprise, that merchants who pay rent, utilities, and maintenance on a property would despise the traveling competition. Or developers who build more empty retail spaces would want to close…

Not so much far-right Tea Party as a balanced, moderate viewpoint between letting businesses succeed and protecting society with reasonable regulations. In spite of what the city reps are saying, the interpretation of policy on this issue certainly has changed. Letting a business start up under one…

I think it’s neat that SP has turned rightward, now espousing a Tea Party-style frustration with government regulations & taxes.

This makes me so sad.  (Happy to live in Urbana, though!)  Crave Truck has been a GREAT addition to the food choices in C-U, and it’d be a travesty to chase them away.  This town should be supporting small businesses.  I’m glad to hear that they’ll still…

And without bloodshed. Sounds like the Savoy trustees aren’t as narrow-minded as some of their whiny pants constituents. Do you think quack Snell is already planning an asinine counterattack or is he still laying low after those “threats” against his person?

Okay, almost 24 hours later and I finally got Issac’s Summer joke. I’m an idiot.

Excellent.  I am glad sometimes American dreams are encouraged, rather than stifled.

funny, as your summer begins, another Summer ends.
