Die-In held on National Day of Silence

On Friday, April 16th, on the Campustown corner of Green and Wright, students, townies, and visiting moms witnessed what was probably a familiar sight: a group of people waiting for streetlights to change, and then running into the intersection and "dying." Die-ins have a rich history, and happen all over the world. Champaign-Urbana has had many: A.W.A.R.E holds them to protest the Iraq War; the Campus Greens have had them too. Friday was the National Day of Silence, and on …

U of I Addresses Budget in Town Hall Meeting

Richard Herman stressed in an optimistic tone that this is no time to adopt a mindset that “the sky is falling.” But there was much curiosity and unrest among those in attendance at the University of Illinois’ town hall meeting Thursday night. In an effort to provide transparency in its attempt to resolve the school’s budget shortfalls, an eight-person panel of University of Illinois representatives discussed the issue and then invited the public’s feedback. At least 500 people filled up …

The On-Campus Housing Rush

Kristie Davis of Bankier Apartments began receiving calls about leasing for August 2009 in July 2008, before many students had even moved into their current apartments. Leasing for on-campus apartments in Champaign-Urbana debuted in late September this year, as the leasing season continues to begin earlier with each passing year. Many students fear they won’t find an apartment they like if they wait past October, but landlords continue placing classified ads for on-campus apartments even into January.

Rob, I’m slightly confused about the media player you are referring to.

I’ve looked at this page with two different browsers, and four different operating systems. I’ve decided that the embedded media player is just plain busted.

You’ll be delighted to know that the entire remainder of Urbana is low income housing. Also no income housing.

Just a point of correction.  The vote was 7-1.  Councilman Faraci was not present.    What I find interesting on this “non-partisan” council is that those most often interpreted to be the “liberals” on the council, felt it necessary to excuse themselves and hum and haw to…

Signs someone is “fishing” for a factual anchor: 1. Starts call to radio with: “I’ve been an Illini fan for (XX) years” or “I’m a diehard fan,” as if somehow that unverifiable claim will justify the 5 minutes of B.S. that follows. 2. Makes reference to KenPom…

Love CSR.  Apart from making my way through the regular roasts in 1/2 pound increments, I also like to pick up some of the little sample packets of the flavored stuff for when the lady and I feel like getting crazy.  Sticky Bun is pretty nice.

We like CSR too! We french press at home and I leave the lid off while it steeps—letting the ground beans bloom. Then, like in your tasting, I scoop off the top layer before pressing. We really need to invest in a burr grinder though, as I…

Your call to stay pissed is precisely why global warming fanatics will fail.  Emotion has no place in hard science.  The problem with the issue of global warming is that is has been pumped full of emotion and politics, and the science is becoming a by-product. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204301404577171531838421366.html?KEYWORDS=global+warming
